Trouble-shoot webcam connectivity issues

The trouble-shooting guide is for these 2 error scenarios:

  • When you get an error message in OctoPrint that says "The Spaghetti Detective failed to connect to the webcam";
  • You can't get webcam streaming in OctoPrint.

If webcam streaming works in OctoPrint but not in The Spaghetti Detective, you need to check this help doc.

Trouble-shooting steps

  1. Set webcam streaming compatibility mode to "Always":

    1. Open OctoPrint settings by clicking the wrench icon.
    2. Select Access Anywhere - The Spaghetti Detective.
    3. Go to the "Advanced Settings" tab.
    4. Select "Always stream in compatibility mode".
    5. Click "Save".

  2. (Very important) Restart the Raspberry Pi. Just restarting OctoPrint is NOT enough in this case.

  3. Check if the webcam streaming works now in OctoPrint. If it does, you can claim victory and open a champagne. Otherwise, continue to the next step.

  4. Disable The Spaghetti Detective premium webcam streaming, or disable Access Anywhere - The Spaghetti Detective plugin altogether in OctoPrint.

  5. Reboot the Raspberry Pi.

  6. If the webcam streaming works in OctoPrint after reboot, whereas it stops working again once you have The Spaghetti Detective premium webcam streaming re-enabled, this could be a bug in Access Anywhere - The Spaghetti Detective plugin. Please stop here and report the problem to us.

  7. If the webcam streaming still doesn't work in OctoPrint after reboot, the problem is NOT caused by The Spaghetti Detective. Instead, the problem is the webcam configurations in OctoPrint. In this case, proceed to next step.

  8. With premium webcam streaming still disabled, test the webcam URL and snapshot URL: Webcam settings

  9. Very likely, at least one of the URLs will fail in the tests. OctoPrint forum or Google will be your best friend.

  10. If you have go through all these steps and still can't get the webcam streaming problem fixed, there are ways to get more help.
